Home Server Relocation & Maintenance
Resolved
Sep 30, 2026 at 4:30am UTC
The Homecave has officially completed its physical relocation.
The server has survived being evicted from its previous residence, transported to the new apartment, reassembled, and connected to the new Internet and network infrastructure.
Against all odds, the approximately 47 cables have been reconnected, the network configuration has been resurrected from the depths of memory, and the services are back online.
What happened
During the relocation:
The server was moved without being dropped
A suspicious number of cables were unplugged and subsequently re-plugged
The new Internet connection was configured
The network infrastructure was rebuilt
Services were brought back online
Various things inevitably decided to stop working
Various things were subsequently convinced to work again
The Homecave has been successfully relocated
Current status

The entire Homecave is being physically relocated.
I am moving to a new apartment, which means the server is also being evicted from its current residence.
During the move, Jellyfin and other home services may be unavailable while the server is transported, reassembled, and connected to the new Internet/network infrastructure.
Maintenance window:
📅 September 25 → September 30, 2026
The maintenance window is intentionally generous because we are dealing with the highly unpredictable technology known as “moving house.”
Expected activities include:
- Moving the server without dropping it
- Reconnecting approximately 47 cables that nobody documented
- Setting up the new Internet connection
- Remembering what the old network configuration was
- Rebuilding anything that decides it doesn’t want to work anymore
- Hopefully keeping the server clean this time
Expected impact:
Jellyfin and potentially other Homecave services may experience extended downtime during the relocation.
The maintenance window may be extended if the move, ISP installation, network configuration, or general chaos takes longer than expected.
Root cause: Moving house.
Change type: Physical infrastructure relocation.
Risk level: Please don’t let me drop the server.
ETA: Somewhere between “soon” and “when the ISP decides to cooperate.”
